Mother of Ícaro, who was born in September 2016.
I like to advertise myself as a Full Spectrum Doula, someone who will support you in your own birth journey.
I am Manoela. A Brazilian woman living in Scotland for the past six years. I grew up in the countryside of Brazil, had been a competitive swimmer from when I was 9 to 17 years old. My swimming career has taught me a lot, and brought me an early sense of indepence, how to look after myself, and fight for what I want. After getting retired from the pools I chose to keeping on the sports life path, but as a coach, for that I studied Physical Education, at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Federal University of Santa Catarina/Florianopolis - Brazil). After having been working on diverse areas of fitness industry in Brazil, me and my husband moved to Scotland for him to do his PhD in Ecology of Marine Mammals, meanwhile I took a maternity break to look after our son, born in Dundee in 2016. Becoming a mother is, undoubtedly, the most transformative experience that I had in my life. Adapting to this new task was difficult in the beginning, but I managed, and, after that, one of my main thoughts was: I want to help other people who face similar situations as the one I had faced. Mixing my Physical Education degree, and studying to be a Doula, was the path that the universe has brought to me. And I am delighted in finally being able to do this!
My Services
What I Do

Postpartum Support
Pregnancy, birth and the early days of child rearing can be very scary and stressful. My role with my Postpartum Support service is to ensure you get the best information and care possible. For that I will be offering visits, on the birthing person demand, of 2 to 4 hours each. On these visits I'll bring the shop, cook a nutritious meal, nurture the birthing person, debrifing, tips on breastfeeding, tiding up prioritized parts of the house, school run (in case of the person has other kids), walk with the dog.

Prenatal Visits
I take on a limited number of clients at any one time to make sure I can give you the full care and attention you deserve. By offering Prenatal Visits, my goal is to reduce any stress, allowing you to pay attention to your body and your baby. Also these visits are a great opportunity to get to know ourselves better.

Peer support for your own birth journey

FAQ
What You Need to Know
Do you perform any physical examinations?
No! My training allows me to work as a non clinical supporter. I will be there to reinforce empowerment for the birthing person, and also bringng my own techniques to help to cope with pain. But I don't act clinically.
How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?
In our antenatal meetings we will find tools together to nurture the bond between the birthing person and the partner, so you can work as a team and I will be an extra source of support.
What are your interactions with medical staff like?
I think that all people involved in someone's birth should work as a big team. That being said, I try to be professional, and not interfere on decisions that are important for the safety of the birth. I will work previously with the birthing person (and the partner) on what will be their choices and support them with that, and I will have my role of suppport if any intervention needs to happen.
